Ordination Sermon

The sun rises
and the sun sets.

Two cells,
from their male and female sources,
UNITE
and a miracle happens.

Cells divide
and follow their ancient code
for constructing a human temple,
fueled by the divine sigh.

The sun rises
and the sun sets.

A girl differentiates from her parents,
grasping for the first time
the awesome responsibility
of being the LONE incarnation
of her unique self…EVER.

The sun rises
and the sun sets.

A heart is shattered.
The ground gives way.
Falling,
falling…
but then gradually I become aware that I am being LIFTED --
gently,
lovingly,
infinitely.

The sun rises
and the sun sets.

I seek to understand my calling.
I search for others
who want the things I want,
who once felt odd, but now,
among others of the same ilk,
have confidence that
the world is unfolding as it should.

The sun rises
and the sun sets.

I set out to bridge heaven & earth
by carrying a small candle
into the dark places of the human spirit –
where people can be convinced
– FALSELY –
that they are unlovable.

One day,
after the sun rises,
and before it sets,
I will take my last breath.

And if I have lived my life well,
you will never doubt
that I remain your friend FOREVER;
and someone, somewhere will have more HOPE;
and many more will know how to RELAX and let God love them.

And the sun will set,
and it will rise again.
