Ordination - September 2007

Every being is a shining individual expression of Infinite Spirit, containing all of Its Divine qualities. When we feel disconnected, disillusioned, or separate, if we can pause and feel into Sacred Source, we are reminded that in every moment we possess all the attributes of this gorgeous Force with which we co-create. This practice allows us to see entirety in an aspect: to see the ocean in a wave, the world in a child, and hope and meaning in grief.

In the same way, all of the spiritual traditions and religions that we honor in our Interfaith work are also various dimensions that each contain all the elements of the whole, of the Energetic Web of Life, of Truth, of God. These traditions are in and of themselves complete. When seen together, they create a collage that is made even more beautiful because of the ways in which they are in dynamic relationship to each other—just as we are. These spiritual traditions are all threads of the cosmic fabric. The wisdom of each makes a significant and essential contribution to the well-being and healing of this extraordinary planet.

Someone recently asked me if I knew how to make God laugh. “How?” I asked, and they said, “Make plans.” We are constantly making plans, and yet the nature of things is to change and fall apart and become something else. So I continue to give God a good chuckle. It was never in my plans to become an ordained Interfaith Minister or spiritual companion, and undoubtedly some of the plans I have in this very moment will shift and change. We can never see the whole picture. But no matter how much changes, breaks apart or falls away, there is always ground in the One Presence, One Life, the Love-Intelligence that animates the Universe and connects all things.

What an honor to have the opportunity to reflect for each other the flicker of Divine Spark present in each and every one of us. May we all be blessed with the attentiveness to see our own and one another’s Truth, strength to surrender to the unexpected unfolding of our journeys, and humility to ask for help from the ministers that we all are.
