"The Heart Starts Singing": Ode to Hafiz

Newsletter Issue:
March 2008

I must confess…
I have fallen in love
With someone.

It is Hafiz, the Sufi poet,
Who strokes my cheeks and tells me:

   “When the violin can forgive
    Every wound caused by others
    The heart starts
    Singing”

It is Hafiz who holds me firmly and tells me:

   “Fear is the cheapest room
    In the house.
I would like to see you living in
    Better conditions.”

It is Hafiz, the Magician,
Who makes the grapes of wrath
Disappear with one hand
While he feeds me grapes of Love
With the other.

It is Hafiz who reminds me that
He is you and you are me.

...They’re playing our song...
Let’s dance!
