Interfaith Ordination Program

Overview of Program

Our Interfaith Ordination program provides an overview of both the theology and mystical paths of the major world religions, as well as practical skills for inclusive Interfaith ministry.

The Chaplaincy Institute for Arts and Interfaith Ministries is an Interfaith seminary for those called to serve as Interfaith clergy. The curricular focus is on preparing clergy to serve our spiritually and culturally diverse world. Students retain their personal theological perspectives, while being exposed to a wide range of other teachings.

The course of study combines core elements from world faith traditions, cultures and sacred texts in the context of Interfaith ministry. Classes focus on skills for inclusive spiritual care and conscious spiritual leadership, including Interfaith worship and celebration. The program's creative arts component incorporates dreamwork, music, movement, and visual arts as primary modes through which we sense and express the Divine throughout our lives.

The Chaplaincy Institute's Interfaith Ordination program consists of twelve one-week modules, each focusing on a particular world religion as well as other topic. Students may take up to three years to complete coursework, and they can take the modules as they are able. (Most students attend on a cycle of either every month or every other month.)  Modules do not have to be taken sequentially, as the calendar of modules repeats itself each year.

Each month a team of core and guest faculty guides students in an integral curricular experience, incorporating theological, academic, creative and experiential elements. In addition, most faculty are gifted artists in one or more modalities.

The material flows between didactic presentations and experiential, theology and psychology, artistic and reflective. Every module is different, yet every module contains elements of ministry, chaplaincy and spiritual care skills. Every module offers opportunity to explore prayer, meditation and ritual through the lens of a particular faith tradition. Our goal is to offer a complete and well-rounded seminary experience that prepares our students to apply their learning in service to individuals, our communities and the world.
